When Johnny Hunt was first elected president of the SBC in June of 2008, we should have foreseen the GCR task force recommendation on the horizon. Soon after his election, I interviewed Hunt and asked what he thought it meant that he received more than 50% of the vote in a field of 5 candidates. He replied, "I would like to think it is this: we need change. Radical change. We can't just drift along just being good ol' boys .... I think this is like a wake up call-‘Would somebody please stand up and tell us what we need to do next and how we can do it?'" (

He perceives the GCR report to be exactly that: Somebody standing up and telling Southern Baptists what to do next. The question is whether Southern Baptists will agree.

"The Yoked Team" is the title I have selected for my blog because living in relationship is at once the greatest blessing and the greatest challenge of human life. Of course, the more intimate the relationship, the greater the benefits and the greater the risks.
