The couple will be based at the University of Virginia’s College at Wise, overseeing Baptist ministry on that campus and at Mountain Empire Community College in Big Stone Gap, Va.
Conan Sherlin will serve as full-time Baptist collegiate minister. Christy Sherlin will serve as associate collegiate minister on a volunteer basis.
For the past year the Sherlins were Baptist collegiate ministry interns at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. They also served in the Journeyman program of the Southern Baptist Convention’s International Mission Board—Conan in China and Christy in Russia. The Journeyman program places recent college graduates in two-year mission assignments around the world.
The Sherlins are graduates of Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary in Mill Valley, Calif. Conan also holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee and Christy from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. They have a 7-month-old daughter.
