• David Clay, to Amherst Church, Amherst, as pastor.

• Bill Wheeler, to First Church, Lynchburg, as acting pastor.

• Russell Leonard, resigning as pastor of Whitehead’s Grove Church, Smithfield.

• John Moxley, resigning as pastor of Azalea Church, Norfolk, effective May 8.

• Bryan Brooks Jr., resigning as pastor of Windsor Church, Windsor.

• Fred Williams., to Grove Park Church, Portsmouth, as interim pastor.

• Chuck Thompson, to Wilroy Church, Suffolk, as interim pastor.

• Charles W. Gibson, now serving as traditional interim pastor at Bybee’s Road Church, Troy.

• Tom Lynch, to McLean Church, McLean, as interim minister to youth and children.

• Amy Holtz, concluding her service as associate pastor for family ministry at Oakwood Memorial Church, Richmond.

RETIREMENT

• Barbara Massey has announced plans to retire as minister to children at River Road Church, Richmond, effective May 31.

• Bob Crute has announced plans to retire as minister of music at Warrenton Church, Warrenton, effective May 29.

ORDINATION

• James W. Anderson, pastor of Brick Church, Castlewood, will be ordained to the gospel ministry by the church on May 29.

REVIVALS

• First Church, Elkton; revival May 15-18; Roger Roller, evangelist.

• Powers Memorial Church, Hopewell; revival May 1-4; Karl Heilman, evangelist.

• Providence Church, Hayes; revival May 1-4; Ed Shephard, evangelist.

CHURCH NEWS

• The music ministry of Derbyshire Church, Richmond, will present a hymn festival, “Celebrating Grace,” May 1 at 10:30 a.m. Fellowship picnic on the front lawn will follow.

• Black Creek Church, Franklin, will celebrate its 225th anniversary May 22 at 10:30 a.m. Fred Anderson, executive director of the Virginia Baptist Historical Society, will portray Dr. William E. Hatcher. A complimentary catered lunch will follow the service.

• Chatham Heights Church, Martinsville, will celebrate its 67th anniversary with homecoming on May 15. Murphy Terry will be guest speaker.

• The music ministry of First Church, Newport News,  will present a Festival of Praise on May 22 at 7 p.m. Reception to follow.

• The church choir and One Accord of First Church, Richmond, will present Hymns for Good, a concert of hymns on May 15 at 7 p.m.

• Old Powhatan Church, Powhatan, will celebrate its 240th anniversary with homecoming on May 22.

• The Collegiate Chorale of Bowling Green State University, Ohio, will be in concert at Port Norfolk Church, Portsmouth, on May 11 at 7 p.m.

• Waverly Place Church, Roanoke, will celebrate its 85th anniversary on May 1 at 10:30 a.m. David Plott Jr. will be speaker. Lunch will follow. An Old Fashioned Hymn Sing will take place at 2 p.m.

OTHER

A really “big” reunion of all former Virginia Commonwealth University BSUers is being held at the newly-refurbished BCM center at Floyd and Cherry in Richmond on June 11 from 12 noon to 5 p.m. The new VCU Baptist Student Union Alumni Association would like the names and contact information for all interested former students in order to get them reconnected along with learning how to be supportive of the current Baptist Collegiate Ministries.
