VIRGINIA BAPTIST FORUM: Selfish church members Print E-mail

I just read the article by Bill Wilson entitled “Seven things church members wish their ministers knew, but are afraid to tell them” [Herald, May 27]. Most of the comments seemed to have come from self-centered Christians. I see that most responses were about what they wanted while nothing was mentioned about what was best for the church.

One person in this article did want to hear life-changing preaching. This is where many pastors fail. If we had life changing preaching in our churches, parishoners would not be focusing upon themselves but upon Christ and the needs of others. It’s the Word of God that changes the attitudes of the people and not the minister or any program. This article really shows us that as pastors, we must focus upon the Word and let the Holy Spirit focus upon a person's heart.
