RICHMOND, Va. -- The Center for Baptist Heritage and Studies is seeking applicants for the 2010-11 class of Heritage Fellows, a program of intensive training in Baptist history and heritage.

The program is open to Baptist students who will be college sophomores or juniors in the fall of 2010. Since 2003, 17 students have been appointed from eight Virginia colleges and universities. 

Heritage Fellows are assigned a topic for research. They also have opportunities to learn about Baptist life and meet current Baptist leaders.

The Center’s current Heritage Fellow is Cole Eskridge, a sophomore at the University of Mary Washington where he is active in the Baptist collegiate ministry. He has completed interviews with several Baptist “peace-bearers” who made significant contributions in Virginia Baptist life. His research will be published by the Center in the spring.

Applicants must be Baptist students enrolled in a Virginia college or university with a recognized Baptist campus ministry affiliated with the Virginia Baptist Mission Board. The students must be active in their church or in campus religious activities. Applicants must have an overall grade average of at least 3.0 or B.

The deadline for application is March 15 and application forms and further information can be obtained from the Center’s website, www.baptistheritage.org. Heritage Fellows receive a stipend of $1,500 per semester for a total of $3,000.
