NASHVILLE, Tenn -- Appointments -- including a number of Virginians -- to Southern Baptist Convention committees and nominees to serve on its boards of trustees have been announced by Baptist Press, the SBC’s news service.

Two Virginians serve on the SBC committee on committees. Appointed by the SBC president -- this year, Johnny Hunt of Woodstock, Ga. -- the committee names the SBC committee on nominations, which in turn nominates trustees to serve as trustees of the various entities of the SBC.

Virginia’s representatives are Dan Cook, Spotswood Baptist Church in Fredericksburg; and Mark Croston, East End Baptist Church in Suffolk.

Also appointed by Hunt is the credentials committee, which this year include Jason Barber of North Main Baptist Church in Danville and Chris Musick of Sword Creek Community Church in Lebanon.

Nominees recommended to serve as trustees were named by this year’s committee on nominations and will serve if elected by messengers at the June 23-24 annual SBC meeting in Louisville, Ky.

Virginians nominated include:

• Executive Committee: James T. “Jim” Davis of Chester, nominated for a second term.

• International Mission Board: Thurman R. Hayes Jr. of Poquoson, nominated for a second term.

• LifeWay Christian Resources: Robert A. Pryor Sr. of Kempsville Baptist Church in Virginia Beach, to a term to expire in 2013.

• Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary: Robert K. “Ken” Owens of Bluefield, nominated for a second term.

Reed E. Johnston III of Wayne Hills Baptist Church in Wayesboro, to a term to expire in 2013.
