Bluefield College professor Tim Crawford, chair of the division of Christian studies, has been elected to serve as vice president of the National Association of Baptist Professors of Religion.

The BC professor of Bible and Hebrew earned the one-year national distinction during the recent annual meeting of the NABPR in Washington, D.C. Since vice presidents of the organization essentially serve as presidents-elect, Crawford will become president of the NABPR in 2008.

As vice president of NABPR, Crawford will be responsible for planning the program for the organization's 2007 annual meeting to be held in San Diego, Calif., next fall. The planning will involve inviting a panel of scholars to speak about a particular subject at the annual meeting and to answer questions on the subject from NABPR members in attendance.

The purpose of NABPR, which holds a membership of just more than 300 professionals, is to provide a forum for Baptist professors to share their ideas about work and research. NABPR also publishes a journal, Perspectives in Religious Studies, now in its 33rd year of production. More recently, the society has started publishing a dissertation series and has increased its efforts to support and encourage doctoral students from the Baptist tradition who would like to teach in Baptist institutions.

A member of NABPR since 1990, Crawford has been a professor at Bluefield College for 16 years. During his BC tenure, he has served as faculty president (2000-2001), chair of the Committee on Substantive Change regarding accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (1998), and director of the self study for reaffirmation of accreditation.
