CAP-HAITIAN, Haiti -- The Haitian Baptist leader who was kidnapped early Sept. 29 was released unharmed later that day without a ransom payment, the Baptist World Alliance reported Sept. 30.

 
White House condemns death sentence for Iranian Christian

The White House condemned Sept. 29 the conviction of a pastor sentenced to death for converting from Islam to Christianity in Iran. Youcef Nadarkhani was tried and convicted of apostasy in 2010. After refusing to recant, a court sentenced him Sept. 28 to death by hanging.

Zimbabwe Baptist seminary principal fired in faith statement dispute

The principal of the Baptist Theological Seminary of Zimbabwe -- who has taught at Baptist divinity schools in Virginia and North Carolina -- has been fired for refusing to accept changes made to the school’s governing documents including adherence to a statement that forbids women from serving as pastors.

At the appointed time, they entered: the ministers wearing clerical vestments and the robed choir singing “The Lord is in his holy temple.” The congregation rose with hymnals in hand. Although this might have taken place in any number of Baptist churches across the country, it happened in Shanghai, China.
