North Carolina pastor Charity Roberson has been tapped to lead a new Virginia Baptist initiative developing learning communities aimed at identifying and training potential church leaders among students of all ages. Roberson, pastor of Sharon Baptist Church in Smithfield, N.C., and a former campus minister, assumes her role March 1.

University Baptist Church, like many American congregations, has a Super Bowl tradition, but for the Charlottesville, Va., church there’s a twist — the viewing audience is homeless men seeking shelter from the sub-freezing temperatures typical during February.
 
John Leland Center partners with Prison Fellowship to train students in justice advocacy

The John Leland Center for Theological Studies is partnering with Prison Fellowship International to provide training and educational opportunities in justice advocacy for the seminary’s master of divinity students. The collaboration is part of Leland’s ministry rotation requirements for the degree.

Appalachian women struggling with poverty, lack of education find hope in new Bluefield program
