JARRATT, Va. -- Unless the U.S. Supreme Court or Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell step in, Teresa Lewis will die on Sept. 23, in the death chamber at Greensville Correctional Center in Jarratt, Va. Lynn Litchfield wants to stop it.

 
Virginia church disbands but result is $1 million for ministry

ARLINGTON, Va. -- A Virginia Baptist congregation has closed its doors after 80 years, but the result will be about $1 million available over time to Christian ministries in Washington’s Northern Virginia suburbs. Trinity Baptist Church in Arlington held its last service Aug. 29, bringing to an end a congregation established in 1930.

RUCKERSVILLE, Va. -- For more than a century, the sanctuary of Ruckersville Baptist Church, about 20 miles north of Charlottesville, Va., stood as a mute but elegant witness to the presence of Christ. But in the very early hours of Sunday morning, Aug. 22, arsonists apparently set it ablaze.

 
Baptist executives endorse federal recognition of Virginia tribes

RICHMOND, Va. -- The top executives of two Virginia Baptist groups have joined other religious leaders in calling for federal recognition of six Native American tribes in the state -- all of them descendants of the groups which first greeted English colonists.

BLUEFIELD, Va. -- One hundred and forty youth from 13 Baptist churches across Virginia converged on Bluefield College, June 27-July 3, to make an “impact” on Greater Bluefield through service projects in the community. Families struggling economically found their lives eased just a little.

Virginia Baptists were hard at work behind the scenes at the 20th Baptist World Congress, enriching the experience of more than 4,000 global Baptists.

HONOLULU -- The approximately 150 Virginia Baptists in Honolulu for the Baptist World Congress fellowshipped at a reception -- and wished Virginia Baptist executive director John Upton a happy birthday.
