Jim Vaught named to Mission Board post

Jim Vaught has been selected as the new church-minister matching specialist and a field strategist for the Virginia Baptist Mission Board’s empowering leaders team.

In 1983 Vaught became the first director of pastoral care and counseling at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg. From 1988-2003 he served the hospital in a variety of leadership and management roles, including director of patient care services, director of emergency services and director of network development. From 1994-2002 he was director of physician recruitment, in which he developed a new system for recruiting over 150 physicians from around the country.

During these years Vaught also served as pastor and interim pastor of several Virginia Baptist churches.

Vaught received a bachelor of arts degree from Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tenn.; a master of divinity degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky.; a master of business administration from Averett College in Danville; and a doctor of ministry degree from Union Theological Seminary in Richmond.

Vaught’s wife, Jeanne, is a registered nurse working in Fredericksburg.

Vaught will begin his new ministry on Feb. 20. He will have a two-fold challenge: developing and administering a new system for assisting churches in the matching process and serving as a field strategist for the Richmond, Dover and Hermon Baptist associations.
