Humor in the pew

“A cheerful heart is good medicine.” (Proverbs 17:22a, NIV)

While traveling to a preaching engagement on a recent Sunday morning, I realized that I had forgotten my watch. Assuming the congregation might want me to keep track of the time, I decided to use my cell phone, which displays the time. Being careful to turn the ringing mode to vibrate, I slipped the phone into my jacket side pocket where I could discreetly pull it out and check the time. It soon became apparent, however, that I had botched the job. I haven’t forgotten my watch since.
