Robert C. Massie has announced plans to retire as pastor of Shipman Church, Shipman, at the end of 2006.

ORDINATION

Melissa Fallen, associate pastor for senior adults and pastoral care at Huguenot Road Church, Richmond, was ordained to the gospel ministry by the church on Jan. 8.

CHURCH NEWS

Central Church, Richmond, will hold renewal services March 5-7. Guest evangelist will be Hardy Clemmons, pastor emeritus of First Church of Greenville, S.C.

Grace Church, Ridgeway, will hold revival March 3-5 with Brady Weldon from Tennessee as guest evangelist.

DEATH

James M. McGhee Jr., pastor of Druid Hills Church, Danville, died on Feb. 5 in Danville at the age of 81. In addition to Druid Hills, he had served as pastor of several churches in Virginia and North Carolina. He is survived by his wife, Helen Juanita Lamb McGhee; a daughter, Sue McGhee Bartell Hall; a son, James T. McGhee; several grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A memorial service was held Feb. 9 at the Swicegood Funeral Home in Danville.

The WMU and their spouses participated in annual “Helping Hands Work Day” on Jan. 9. During this all-day event, participants performed many needed tasks throughout the church, including preparing pots of homemade soup to deliver to shut-ins.
